Staff ML Engineer (Embodied AI Onboard Autonomy)

Location: Hybrid in Sunnyvale, California, with attendance at the Mountain View Technical Center in the Bay Area at least three times per week. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

Salary: $180,000–$280,000 base salary per year, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Design, develop, validate, and deploy advanced onboard machine learning models for real-time autonomous driving.
• Architect end-to-end ML projects that transform raw sensor data into actionable driving behaviors.
• Develop neural network architectures, training methods, and inference optimization strategies for onboard deployment.
• Improve model scalability, robustness, safety, and performance under uncertainty.
• Integrate ML capabilities with multidisciplinary autonomous vehicle engineering systems.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship while shaping ML roadmaps and engineering practices.

Requirements

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 4 years of experience with large-scale foundation models, including LLMs, VLAs, and vision-focused models.
• Extensive experience developing and deploying advanced ML systems for end-to-end, real-time onboard applications.
• Expertise in computer vision, deep learning, representation learning, real-time inference, model optimization, and robustness under uncertainty.
• Strong Python and C++ software engineering skills with hands-on experience in PyTorch, TensorFlow, and JAX.
• Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, and technical strategy skills.

• Experience with autonomous vehicles or advanced driver-assistance systems.
