Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Mapping Staff iOS Engineer, Growth (AI)

Salary: $251,000–$310,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

What you will do

• Design, train, evaluate, validate, and deploy machine learning models for automated creation of high-resolution maps.
• Apply computer vision, deep learning, Vision-Language Models, and generative AI techniques to mapping automation.
• Own the complete model development lifecycle, from data mining and processing through productionization.
• Build scalable, reliable, production-grade solutions for the Waymo Driver.
• Collaborate with ML teams including Waymo Perception and Waymo AI Foundations to adapt research into practical systems.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on machine learning experience focused on computer vision and/or deep learning.
• Proficiency in at least one major deep learning framework, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX.
• Experience owning problems end to end and working across multiple parts of the systems stack.
• B.S. in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work in the Mountain View, California location under the stated on-site/hybrid arrangement.

Nice to have

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Experience with foundation models, few-shot learning, transfer learning, or domain adaptation.
• Publications in top-tier machine learning or computer vision conferences.
• Experience with C++.
• Experience with mapping or GIS.
