Art Director (Theme Parks)

Location: Universal City, California, United States; onsite role

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 per year, bonus eligible

What you will do

• Establish the visual direction and design elements for Universal Studios Hollywood placemaking projects, including environmental elements, retail and food kiosks, show interiors and exteriors, landscapes, and hardscapes.
• Develop sketches, illustrations, models, composite imagery, image research, drawings, and design documentation.
• Coordinate and technically execute creative intent across design and development phases.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, licensors, and intellectual property partners to deliver the desired vision.
• Present project concepts, content, and status to internal and external audiences.
• Develop in-field construction solutions and follow-up documentation while ensuring completion of art, finishes, and material specifications.

Requirements

• 12+ years of production design and field experience based on Universal Creative standards.
• Experience designing entertainment experiences for world-class theme parks or related industries, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Associate’s and bachelor’s degree in Theater, Art, Film, or Architecture required; a master’s degree in one of these fields is preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of color theory, art history, scenic painting techniques, sculpture, architecture, perspective, fabrication, and technical design.
• Ability to communicate complex artistic ideas through written and visual materials.
• Experience with AutoCAD, 3D software, and Adobe Creative Suite.
