Staff Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid role based in the United States, with three days per week in the Culver City, California office.

Salary: $200,000–$265,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Lead engineering best practices, mentor engineers, and deliver high-impact platform solutions.
• Own cross-service problems from definition and design through implementation and rollout.
• Design and harden identity and access management, including authentication, authorization, RBAC, and OAuth/OIDC flows.
• Strengthen AWS and cloud infrastructure security, configuration, and operational guardrails.
• Improve performance, security, and optimization across high-volume transactional databases.
• Build reliable, observable, and secure APIs, distributed systems, and customer-facing web applications while leading incident remediation.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience building scalable distributed systems.
• Strong Java and AWS experience; familiarity with Spring Boot, microservices, Postgres, and Kubernetes.
• Backend-focused engineering experience with the ability to work across the stack.
• Demonstrated experience building and shipping security, scalability, or infrastructure solutions.
• Ability to communicate effectively, take ownership, solve complex problems, and collaborate with Security and CISO teams.
• Ability to work from the United States and attend the Culver City office three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or other security-sensitive and highly regulated environments.
• B.A. or B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Full-stack experience with a backend focus.
