Research Intern (Bioethanol) - Summer 2027

Location: On-site in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, United States; up to 20% travel may be required, including occasional overnight travel.

What you will do

• Conduct benchtop, small-scale, pilot, plant, and analytical tests and trials.
• Work with research team members to develop plans supporting commercial objectives.
• Complete assigned research plans and assist with on-site commissioning and start-up activities.
• Analyze, interpret, document, and communicate research data, results, issues, and accomplishments.
• Collaborate with engineers, scientists, bioprocessing plant operators, and maintenance crews.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and promote safe behavior and environmental compliance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Entering junior-level or higher college coursework in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with laboratory equipment, including spectrophotometers, and general chemical assay procedures.
• Strong communication, attention to detail, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a team, learn new programs, embrace change, and work objectively in uncertain situations.
• Ability to perform physical duties including extended standing, occasional lifting of more than 50 pounds, equipment maintenance, and wearing PPE.
