Lead, Solution Architect - R&D Digital Platforms (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid position in Bedford, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $140,000–$175,000 per year, plus annual bonus eligibility

What you will do

• Define and evolve solution architecture for the Digital Innovation Platform, including reusable blueprints for R&D workflows, data services, integrations, and user experiences.
• Design integration and data architectures for experiment execution, data capture, contextualization, lineage, semantic models, and enterprise reuse.
• Guide AI-enabled capabilities such as search, summarization, workflow orchestration, retrieval-based solutions, and agent-based patterns.
• Evaluate build, buy, and integration options while balancing scalability, maintainability, delivery speed, and total cost of ownership.
• Provide architecture governance through design reviews, decision records, standards, and non-functional requirements covering reliability, performance, scalability, and observability.
• Partner with product owners, delivery teams, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, data teams, and external vendors to support secure and sustainable platform delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in solution architecture and delivery of cloud-based platforms and custom solutions.
• Experience with R&D ecosystems, laboratory informatics, laboratory information management systems, electronic lab notebooks, scientific data management systems, or instrumentation integration.
• Strong knowledge of systems integration, cloud platforms, data and analytics architectures, and AI/ML concepts.
• Experience supporting scientific, technical, engineering, manufacturing, or R&D workflows and working in agile or scaled agile environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with modeling and simulation, high-performance computing integration, knowledge graphs, semantic search, Docker, Kubernetes, DevOps, or DevSecOps.
• Experience with GCP, AI/ML, MLOps, metadata strategy, data lineage, taxonomies, ontologies, and model guardrails.
• Experience operating across federated global environments with diverse systems, processes, and data landscapes.
