Legal Counsel (Privacy & SaaS)

Location: London, hybrid

Salary: £65,000–£85,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Own corporate and commercial legal work, including shareholder matters, board documentation, stock plans, M&A, licensing, employment matters, contracts, DPAs, and customer terms.
• Maintain privacy documentation, including technical and organisational measures, data processing provisions, privacy policies, candidate and employee notices, DPIAs, and ROPAs.
• Manage governance activities such as whistleblowing processes, trademark records, and annual ICO registration renewal.
• Coordinate SOC 2 and relevant ISO certification cycles, including auditors, timelines, and Vanta access.
• Manage day-to-day Vanta administration, including policy reviews, joiner and leaver checks, vendor reviews, and risk reviews.
• Partner with Commercial, Product, People, Data, Technology, and Sales teams on legal, regulatory, compliance, and due diligence matters.

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales or equivalent, with a few years of post-qualification experience.
• Strong knowledge of UK and EU data protection and privacy law, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, DPAs, and customer terms with minimal supervision.
• Pragmatic commercial judgment and the ability to explain legal and compliance risks clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
• Comfort working independently as the sole in-house legal hire and managing external legal counsel.
• Ability to work in a hybrid role based in London.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO frameworks, or GRC tools such as Vanta.
• Recognised privacy qualification such as IAPP CIPP/E.
• Experience with DORA or other cross-border regulatory frameworks.
• In-house experience in a SaaS or technology business.
