Senior Software Engineer, Backend (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid schedule with in-office work required on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Salary: $156,000–$195,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Collaborate with product management, design, and engineering to develop product features that improve business metrics.
• Write, test, review, document, and ship maintainable production code.
• Improve and scale backend architecture, application design, APIs, internal services, and web application systems.
• Develop tools and utilities for diagnosing and resolving technical problems.
• Prepare sound technical designs and documentation.
• Work effectively in a changing environment and contribute creative technical solutions.

Requirements

• Typically at least five years of experience shipping high-scale production code.
• Experience with AI-enabled development and tooling.
• Professional fluency in at least one of Java, Python, Ruby, Go, or C.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, databases, distributed systems, and search.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to designers, support, and engineers.
• Ability to work in the San Francisco office at least three days per week on the required hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
