Senior or Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Go)

Location: Canada; remote-eligible roles may be based anywhere in Canada or the US. Toronto-area employees living within 65 km of the downtown headquarters collaborate in-office Monday through Thursday.

Salary: $150,000–$206,000 CAD annually, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate scalable backend platform services and internal developer tooling with Go, Kubernetes, MongoDB, and Google Cloud Platform.
• Own platform initiatives from technical design through production delivery, operation, monitoring, and incident resolution.
• Lead technical planning and architecture decision records; at Staff level, set architecture direction across multiple pods.
• Apply AI-assisted engineering practices, including coding agents, multi-agent workflows, MCP and tool integrations, testing, debugging, and code review.
• Improve engineering quality through automated testing, performance monitoring, rigorous code review, and secure coding practices.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders on the platform roadmap.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience for Senior level or 10+ years for Staff level building and operating scalable backend software in production.
• Hands-on expertise with Go, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform, MongoDB, and authentication or authorization systems such as OAuth.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, API design, automated testing, and engineering best practices.
• Practical daily experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Cursor or Claude Code; Staff candidates should have experience with agents, MCP, and tool integrations.
• Ability to work autonomously on ambiguous technical problems, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and mentor engineers.
• A diploma or degree is welcome but not required.
