Staff Backend Engineer, Database Automation (Go)

Location: Remote in Canada or the United States

Salary: $152,800–$259,200 USD per year for the United States; the range applies to US residents.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain Go automation for the full PostgreSQL lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, upgrades, failover, scaling, and decommissioning.
• Build a standardized PostgreSQL-as-a-service platform across cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code tooling, compute, storage, networking, identity, and managed data services.
• Develop safe, repeatable major-version upgrade automation and validate changes against real production traffic.
• Improve PostgreSQL performance, scalability, data health, and operational runway for high-throughput, always-on services.
• Operate production systems end to end, review engineering changes, document operational patterns, and collaborate with infrastructure, product, software delivery, and database teams.
• Use AI agents in implementation, review, service operation, and reduction of repetitive work.

Requirements

• Professional experience with PostgreSQL in large, complex production environments, including database-as-a-service products.
• Proficiency in Go for designing, implementing, testing, and reviewing backend services.
• Experience with Kubernetes operators, controllers, or comparable lifecycle automation for stateful services and databases.
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code, high availability, replication, backups, and system-level performance trade-offs.
• Strong written communication, self-directed execution, technical ownership, architecture planning, mentoring, and asynchronous collaboration.
• Must be eligible to work remotely from Canada or the United States.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Experience with database or infrastructure automation comparable to Kubernetes operator development.
