Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Mechanical Engineering

Location: Hybrid working model in Milan, Italy or Madrid, Spain

Salary: €41,500 minimum for Associate Editor roles in Milan; €55,000 minimum for Senior Editor roles in Milan

What you will do

• Shape, develop, and establish Nature Mechanical Engineering, launching in 2027.
• Assess original research papers for significance, quality, scientific suitability, and scope.
• Oversee peer review and make timely, consistent editorial decisions.
• Develop journal content strategy and identify important developments and emerging research areas.
• Commission and edit Reviews, Perspectives, and Comments, and write editorials about complex scientific topics.
• Collaborate with Nature Portfolio editors, authors, reviewers, researchers, and the wider engineering community through conferences and institutional visits.

Requirements

• PhD and a strong research track record relevant to the journal's fields.
• Broad scientific knowledge and training in mechanical engineering or related interdisciplinary areas.
• Excellent literary, scientific writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to absorb, understand, and evaluate new areas of research.
• Particular interest in interdisciplinary experience involving mechanical engineering and biomedical or electrical engineering, including medical devices, mechanical sensing, or mechatronics.

Nice to have

• Postdoctoral experience.
• Previous editorial experience.
