Senior Backend Engineer (Go, AI)

Location: Fully remote within New Zealand, Australia East Coast, or nearby time zones

What you will do

• Design and scale Go microservices managing the full lifecycle of AI generation.
• Optimize ConnectRPC services and Kafka/SQS pipelines for long-running, resource-intensive inference.
• Build multimodal orchestration across images, video, audio, 3D, and vector media.
• Use AWS services and high-performance storage and compute clusters to manage large data throughput.
• Improve reliability, latency, observability, testing, and on-call readiness across the generation path.
• Integrate frontier models into production and contribute to backend technical direction.

Requirements

• Extensive experience building and scaling backend services in Go in high-traffic SaaS environments.
• Experience designing distributed microservices with Kafka or SQS, gRPC, ConnectRPC or GraphQL, queueing, backpressure, retries, and long-running workloads.
• Deep AWS experience with EKS, S3, and Lambda, plus relational database expertise, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Strong production discipline in observability, profiling, debugging, code review, and automated testing.
• Ability to own and document architecture, work independently, and communicate effectively in a distributed team.
• Good written and spoken English and availability within New Zealand, Australia East Coast, or nearby time zones.

Nice to have

• Media processing experience with video transcoding, audio synthesis, or vector manipulation.
• AI infrastructure experience, including model serving, GPU workloads, generative models, or compute cost optimization.
• Startup or fast-moving distributed-environment experience.
