What you will do

• Coordinate protein production projects from initial discussions with users through delivery and reporting of results.
• Design protein production strategies, including construct design, expression-system selection and purification workflows.
• Produce and deliver purified proteins using recombinant expression and chromatography methods.
• Develop and optimise high-throughput expression and purification workflows.
• Maintain chromatography instruments and provide technical support for facility workflows.
• Train users, visitors and new team members and contribute to courses and workshops.

Requirements

• Undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in molecular biology, biochemistry or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Hands-on experience with recombinant protein expression in E. coli, insect cells and mammalian cells at different scales and throughputs.
• Strong knowledge of affinity, ion exchange and size exclusion chromatography.
• Advanced experience troubleshooting and maintaining ÄKTA, NGC or comparable chromatography platforms.
• Strong organisation, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
• Fluency in English and willingness to work in the Heidelberg facility are required.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of cloning methods.
• Experience with cell-free expression systems.
• Experience with laboratory automation or liquid-handling systems for high-throughput screening.
