TL;DR
R&D Co-Op (MedTech): Developing and evaluating novel wound-closure medical devices, with an accent on antibacterial technologies, cardiovascular surgery, laboratory testing, and prototype fabrication. Focus on designing project studies, creating 3D-printed fixtures, characterizing prototypes, and documenting engineering results in collaboration with scientists, engineers, surgeons, and suppliers.

Location: On-site in Raritan, New Jersey, United States. Daily transportation to and from work is required, and candidates must be able to relocate to the laboratory worksite.

Salary: $23.50–$52.50 per hour, based on program year, discipline, degree, and experience.

What you will do

  • Perform hands-on laboratory work supporting new product development in wound closure and healing.
  • Use machining processes to build and evaluate novel medical devices and prototypes.
  • Participate in Voice-of-Customer laboratories with surgeons and collaborate with scientists, engineers, and suppliers.
  • Design project studies and test and characterize prototype devices and competitive products.
  • Generate 3D models and 3D-printed components to develop test methods and fixtures.
  • Write test protocols, final reports, and meeting documentation using good documentation practices.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without current or future employment visa sponsorship.
  • Available to work full-time, 40 hours per week, on site during the co-op or internship term.
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited university throughout the assignment and pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree.
  • Completed at least the first year of undergraduate study and currently a sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8; a GPA of 3.0 or higher is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel, along with strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

  • Studies in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, materials science, or chemical engineering.
  • Interest or experience in antibacterial technologies and cardiovascular surgery.
