Manager, Materials Quality Engineering

Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; onsite role supporting two Japan manufacturing plants

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a regional team of Materials Quality Engineers covering chemistry, membranes, and mechanical fabrication commodities.
• Provide technical direction across supplier management, raw material management, management of change, and new product development.
• Partner with Japan plant leadership, global quality teams, Procurement, Operations, R&D, Customer Quality, and suppliers.
• Lead supplier investigations, audits, corrective and preventive actions, process capability reviews, and closure of systemic quality issues.
• Oversee quality reporting, risk escalation, performance indicators, and cross-functional execution.
• Maintain compliance with global quality policies, material control plans, supplier quality requirements, and change-control standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of industry experience and 3+ years of people leadership.
• Fluency in Japanese and English is required.
• Experience managing employees and collaborating across global, cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of SPC, FMEA, supplier quality systems, materials characterization, chemistry, membrane technologies, and mechanical fabrication processes.
• Proficiency with Minitab, JMP, SAS, SAP, Power BI, and Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

• Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
• Fluency in Mandarin or another regional language.
