Tutor (Special Education)

Location: On-site, in-home tutoring in Venice, California, United States

Salary: $25–$35 per hour

What you will do

• Provide individualized instruction in foundational literacy, reading, writing, and verbal expression.
• Teach phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, reading fluency, and comprehension through structured practice.
• Develop written expression, sentence formation, vocabulary, organization, and communication skills.
• Use visual aids, manipulatives, movement, repetition, and other multisensory teaching strategies.
• Break down academic tasks, check comprehension, monitor progress, and adapt lessons to the student's needs.
• Collaborate with the student's support team and align instruction with current academic goals when appropriate.

Requirements

• Teaching credential required.
• Experience working with elementary students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or learning differences.
• Experience supporting students performing below grade level in reading and writing.
• Knowledge of reading fluency, comprehension, written expression, auditory processing difficulties, and related support strategies.
• Patient, encouraging, adaptable teaching style with the ability to build rapport and maintain student engagement.
• Availability for approximately 10 hours per month, scheduled two days per week for 1.25 hours.
