TL;DR
Clinical Genomic Scientist (Clinical Indication) (Clinical Genomics): Analyzing clinical genetics data, curating variants and genes, and drafting clinical reports with an accent on ACMG-guided interpretation, sequencing data, and gene–disease correlations. Focus on interpreting WGS/WES and other genomic datasets, evaluating clinical relevance, and validating technologies and analysis workflows.

Location: Remote within the United States; minimal on-site time at the Houston, Texas headquarters may be required.

What you will do

  • Curate variants, genes, and gene–disease correlations using ACMG guidelines, internal datasets, scientific literature, and online resources.
  • Analyze clinical genomics data from next-generation sequencing, Sanger sequencing, metabolomics, and chromosomal microarray testing.
  • Draft clinical reports and communicate genomic findings during team huddles and meetings.
  • Support validation of emerging technologies and software platforms with laboratory directors and R&D.
  • Refine processes, assess data quality, and perform related clinical genomics duties.

Requirements

  • PhD or MD in clinical medicine, genetics, molecular biology, or an equivalent field; candidates with a master’s degree and relevant experience may be considered for some levels.
  • Knowledge of genomic variation, molecular mechanisms of disease, variant detection, functional assays, and clinical or laboratory genetics.
  • Experience with literature curation, data analysis, quality assessment, medical or biological ontologies, and clinical case interpretation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain detailed genetics findings.
  • Relevant experience ranges from 0–2 years for Scientist I to 7+ years for Senior Clinical Genomic Scientist.
  • Ability to work remotely in the United States and attend occasional on-site activities in Houston, Texas.

Nice to have

  • Experience with bioinformatics analysis, variant effect prediction algorithms, and large genomic datasets.
  • Programming experience with Perl, Python, or another programming language, including script creation.
  • MB(ASCP) certification.
  • Workflow improvement, project leadership, mentorship, or colleague training experience.
