TL;DR
Cybersecurity Engineer - CBO (Cybersecurity): Designing and maintaining enterprise security controls across cloud, network, and endpoint environments with an accent on Zero Trust, identity-centric access, continuous monitoring, and threat detection. Focus on configuring IAM and MFA, analyzing SIEM and EDR/XDR events, remediating vulnerabilities, and aligning security engineering with NIST standards and the Risk Management Framework.

Location: Hybrid in Washington, DC, with on-site presence required at customer facilities and, as assigned, data-center/computing facilities in Ashburn, VA and Manassas, VA. Remote work is authorized for the role. Core hours are 9:00 AM–6:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday.

Salary: $90,000–$107,000 per year

What you will do

  • Implement and maintain enterprise security controls aligned with NIST SP 800-53.
  • Enforce Zero Trust Architecture across cloud, network, and endpoint environments using continuous verification and least-privilege access.
  • Configure and manage IAM, RBAC, PAM, authentication, authorization, and MFA.
  • Monitor and respond to security events using SIEM and EDR/XDR tools, including incident triage, containment, investigation, and remediation.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, coordinate patching, and harden systems, applications, and cloud environments.
  • Perform NIST RMF risk analysis, maintain cybersecurity procedures and baselines, and support audit-ready documentation and 24/7 monitoring operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • At least 8 years of hands-on cybersecurity engineering experience.
  • Experience with SIEM, EDR/XDR, IAM/MFA, and vulnerability management tools such as Sentinel, Splunk, Microsoft Defender, and Tenable.
  • Working knowledge of NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-207 Zero Trust, and the NIST Risk Management Framework.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification required; higher-level certification preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence required. Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust Tier 2 suitability, complete an FBI background check, and undergo U.S. Capitol Police fingerprinting.

Nice to have

  • CISSP, CySA+, GIAC, CEH, Microsoft, or AWS security certifications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Tenable.sc, hybrid Active Directory / Entra ID, or M365 GCC environments.
  • Experience supporting federal, Congressional, or legislative branch environments.
