Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway (Fintech)

hirify.global is an African financial platform providing payments, banking, credit, cross-border, and business management tools for businesses and individuals.

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment gateway.
• Lead multiple engineering teams through engineering managers and build organisational capability.
• Own developer experience across APIs, SDKs, documentation, and integration workflows.
• Drive the platform toward multi-currency and international scalability.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and security for payment, payout, commerce, and developer-facing capabilities.
• Partner with product, commercial, and operations teams and develop engineering managers and senior engineers.

Requirements

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership.
• At least 5 years of hands-on production Java development experience.
• At least 5 years of experience managing managers and leading engineering organisations through other leaders.
• Experience with payments, fintech, or financial services products, including payment flows and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, API integration, and high-throughput distributed transactional systems.
• Experience leading multiple engineering teams in a scaling organisation.

Nice to have

• Experience building or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform.

• Panel interview with two VPs of Engineering, followed by a technical assessment with the Group CTO or Co-founder.
• Behavioral and technical interview with the Group CEO or Founder, followed by a technical workshop with the Group CTO or Co-founder.
