Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment gateway.
• Lead multiple engineering teams through engineering managers and build organisational capability.
• Own developer experience across APIs, SDKs, documentation, and integration workflows.
• Drive the platform toward multi-currency and international market support.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, security, and compliance for payment infrastructure.
• Partner with product, commercial, and operations teams and hire, mentor, and develop engineering leaders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership.
• 5+ years of hands-on production Java development experience.
• 5+ years managing engineering managers and leading organisations through other engineering leaders.
• Experience with payments, fintech, or financial services products, including payment flows and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, and API integration.
• Experience with high-throughput distributed transactional systems and multiple engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience building or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform.
