Spacecraft Avionics Systems Engineer II

Salary: $119,543–$152,749 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Define avionics project scopes and requirements with cross-functional engineering teams, guiding systems from concept through production.
• Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and resource budgets covering power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass.
• Analyze system faults and risks, create mitigation plans, and support FDIR and operational workarounds.
• Plan and conduct verification of avionics systems using flight and hardware-in-the-loop hardware for launch, space, and reentry operations.
• Integrate Winnebago avionics systems, support mission operations, and investigate integrated system issues.
• Build and operate hardware-in-the-loop testbeds, ground infrastructure, test racks, and R&D equipment while improving test automation and efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• At least 3 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
• Proficiency in programming and debugging with Python.
• Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4–20 mA devices, and general test equipment.
• Must work on-site in El Segundo, California, and be authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. person.
• Ability to mentor new engineers and collaborate across engineering functions.

Nice to have

• Experience taking vehicle electrical systems from concept through operational production.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testbeds, configuration control, and system-level testing.
• Familiarity with Unix environments and command-line utilities.
• Experience developing test cases and equipment for vehicle operating conditions.
• Project or program management experience, or prior avionics hardware, FPGA, electronics test, or electrical systems engineering experience.
