Software Development Engineer (Test) 3 (Linux)

What you will do

• Maintain and improve Buildkite CI pipelines, agents, queues, plugins, build performance, and reliability.
• Support the AWS cloud estate and Kubernetes clusters used by manual, automated, and CI systems.
• Build test pipelines for new features and platforms and implement automated tests at component, integration, end-to-end, and stability levels.
• Extend coverage across Linux distributions, kernel versions, and container runtimes.
• Investigate flaky tests and infrastructure failures, improve CI observability, and move infrastructure toward infrastructure as code.
• Work with developers and release engineering on testability, release readiness, and quality risks.

Requirements

• A few years of commercial experience in test automation, SDET, QA engineering, or a similar role.
• Working programming ability in Python, Go, C++, or Rust.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and practical cloud experience, ideally AWS.
• Familiarity with containers, Kubernetes, Git, and modern code review workflows.
• Exposure to infrastructure as code such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
• Linux fundamentals including processes, filesystems, networking, systemd, permissions, packaging, and command-line troubleshooting.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with eBPF or other kernel-level telemetry sources.
• Experience testing multiple Linux distributions or kernel versions.
• Experience designing test frameworks or harnesses.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability tools.
