Sr. Software Engineer (Payments)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States; hybrid for employees living within 30 miles of an office. What you will do

• Define and implement quality strategy and automated end-to-end validation for payment acceptance systems.
• Design and execute high-concurrency load, stress, latency, and performance testing for payment pipelines.
• Build AI-assisted test automation, synthetic data generation workflows, edge-case analysis, and emulators for card networks and partner systems.
• Implement telemetry-driven test environments using Prometheus and Grafana to identify issues and prevent incidents.
• Embed automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines and partner with feature teams on reliable testing workflows.
• Mentor engineers on quality engineering and test automation practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on quality engineering, test automation frameworks, and performance testing for distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Java, Python, Go, or TypeScript, REST API testing, and microservices validation.
• Experience with JMeter, Locust, Gatling, or k6 for performance, stress, and load testing.
• Experience embedding quality gates into CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or GitOps, Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, and AWS.
• Experience testing Kafka or SQS event-driven architectures and relational or NoSQL databases for consistency and transactional integrity.

Nice to have

• Experience with payment processing, tokenization, security products, 3DS, network tokens, account updater, or payment gateway integrations.
• Experience with AI developer tools, LLM-generated test automation, or synthetic test data generation.
• Knowledge of PCI-DSS, SOC2, and cloud security constraints.
• BA/BS degree and experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
