Principal Security Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid schedule with three days per week onsite in San Francisco FiDi or Culver City, California

Salary: $226,000–$300,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Own security architecture and reusable reference patterns across AWS, EKS, Kubernetes, and the Java/Spring platform.
• Lead security design reviews and threat modeling for new products and services.
• Define standards for encryption, key management, identity, zero trust, network segmentation, and service-to-service authentication and authorization.
• Drive the encryption strengthening program and establish cloud security guardrails.
• Partner with Engineering, Cloud, and IT to embed security into the SDLC and infrastructure by default.
• Advise on security architecture for strategic initiatives, integrations, and framework alignment.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in security, including significant experience in security architecture or senior security engineering.
• Deep experience securing AWS and Kubernetes environments at scale.
• Strong application security, secure-design, and threat-modeling background.
• Working knowledge of cryptography, key management, zero-trust architecture, and identity architecture.
• Fluency across modern technology stacks including Java, Spring, Terraform, Kubernetes, and AWS.
• B.A. or B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated environments such as SEC/FINRA, fintech, clearing, or broker-dealer organizations.
• Experience with cryptographic isolation, envelope encryption, or searchable encryption.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or SABSA.
