Software Engineer (Kubernetes)

Location: Hybrid in Maryland, United States, with an average of 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, MD office and/or a customer site.

Salary: $133,300–$201,290 USD annually.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Build and maintain Java-based software using modern frameworks and libraries.
• Develop and maintain Kubernetes deployments using Helm and Flux.
• Design enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Troubleshoot software issues, test solutions, and manage multiple deadlines.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and team leadership while remaining hands-on.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance are required.
• Relevant experience equivalent to 9 years with a bachelor’s degree, 7 years with a master’s degree, or 13 years with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong Java development experience with modern frameworks and libraries such as Spring and Guava.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Flux, enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices, Linux, Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Experience with agile software development and demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, or engineering management.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with regular office or customer-site attendance and schedule flexibility.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, custom Kubernetes operators and CRDs, Go, Python, and CI/CD automation.
• Experience with distributed or NoSQL databases and search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Familiarity with big data platforms and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub Enterprise.
