Director of Contracts (Defense)

Location: Arlington, Virginia, United States. The role requires eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 USD per year, plus potential equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the contracts function, including strategy, standards, processes, and scalable operating systems.
• Structure and execute federal government awards and expand existing contracts to support company growth.
• Advise Business Development, Proposal, and Engineering teams on acquisition strategy, contract vehicles, and follow-on opportunities.
• Lead negotiations and administer awards through performance, closeout, compliance, and resolution of contract issues.
• Manage relationships with government contracting officers, agreements officers, procurement offices, vendors, primes, and industry partners.
• Build and manage the subcontract and teaming portfolio, including NDAs, teaming agreements, subcontracts, and flow-down requirements.

Requirements

• 8+ years of federal contracting or acquisition experience in government, industry, or a combination of both.
• Strong knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation, DFARS, contract types, competitive procedures, and cost and price analysis.
• Experience negotiating and administering government awards, including data rights and intellectual property under DFARS 252.227.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Ability to work across FAR-based contracts, Other Transactions, commercial agreements, IDIQs, task orders, grants, and cooperative agreements, or willingness to learn these instruments.

Nice to have

• Government-side acquisition experience, including a contracting or agreements officer warrant.
• Experience with Other Transactions, Commercial Solutions Openings, or defense innovation organizations such as DIU, AFWERX, ONR, or DARPA.
• DAWIA certification or a graduate degree in contract management, acquisition, business, or law.
• Active TS/SCI clearance and experience with non-traditional defense contractors or commercial technology companies.
• Experience building or scaling a contracts function at a high-growth company.
