Principal Scientist, Biology (Inflammation and Immunology)

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States; lab-based role

Salary: $164,000–$205,000 annually, plus bonus and equity

What you will do

• Set scientific direction and research priorities for one or more therapeutic programs.
• Design and oversee in vitro and in vivo studies covering disease biology, target validation, and lead candidate development.
• Generate and evaluate novel biology target hypotheses and therapeutic strategies.
• Design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret experiments using primary human and mouse immune cells and ex vivo tissue systems.
• Establish primary-tissue cell cultures and perform immune profiling and functional assays, including high-parameter flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD, Luminex, qPCR, and RNA sequencing analyses.
• Translate data into recommendations for senior leadership, collaborate across functions, and mentor junior scientists.

Requirements

• PhD in Immunology or a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong expertise in in vitro and ex vivo immunology, primary immune assays, co-culture systems, target-cell depletion assays, and high-parameter flow cytometry.
• Ability to independently define research strategy, oversee complex experiments, and use data to guide program direction.
• Track record of impact through first-author publications, posters, and conference presentations.
• Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Highly organized approach to record keeping and management of multiple workstreams.

Nice to have

• Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing, CRISPR/Cas9, and omics data analysis.
• Interest in using AI tools for research design, data analysis, and daily workflows.
• Creative approaches to identifying and validating novel therapeutic targets.
