Coordinator, Assessment & Authorization Specialist (Mid) (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote, associated with Rockville, Maryland

Salary: $120,000–$165,000 per year

What you will do

• Assess the effectiveness of implemented security and privacy controls and control enhancements.
• Evaluate deficiencies, determine their severity, and recommend corrective actions to mitigate vulnerabilities.
• Prepare security and privacy assessment reports with findings and recommendations for team leadership review.
• Conduct initial remediation activities and reassess remediated controls to validate effectiveness.
• Assess system-specific and inherited controls within the Department of Energy's continuous monitoring strategy.
• Contribute to complex assignments, deliverables, and performance metrics while working independently and collaboratively.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or four years of equivalent professional experience.
• 5–7 years of experience in security control assessments, cybersecurity evaluations, or related technical security work.
• Experience assessing security and privacy controls aligned with federal frameworks such as NIST RMF and NIST SP 800-53.
• Ability to analyze technical documentation, identify security gaps, and communicate findings clearly in written reports.
• Strong understanding of continuous monitoring and system inheritance concepts.
• Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
