TL;DR
Precision Controls Engineer (Manufacturing Automation): Designing and deploying ultra-precision manufacturing systems with nanometer-level motion performance and an accent on advanced control solutions, error compensation, servo tuning, and precision validation. Focus on identifying positioning errors, translating requirements into control architectures, and deploying complex electromechanical automation systems.

Location: On-site in Maplewood, Minnesota, United States, with at least four days per week at the hirify.global Center. Travel may include up to 35% domestic and international travel. Relocation may be authorized.

Salary: $145,676–$178,049 annually, including base pay and variable incentive pay if eligible.

What you will do

  • Develop, deploy, and support advanced control solutions for ultra-precision manufacturing systems with nanometer-level performance requirements.
  • Identify, quantify, and mitigate positioning errors affecting machine accuracy, repeatability, and system performance.
  • Create strategies for error compensation, motion optimization, servo tuning, and precision system validation.
  • Translate application requirements into control architectures, system specifications, and machine performance targets.
  • Manage technical requirements, cost estimates, schedules, and deliverables for capital equipment projects.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and process engineering teams to deploy high-performance automation systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or physical science.
  • At least six years of experience in mechatronics, precision engineering, industrial automation, motion control, robotics, or a related area.
  • Experience designing, developing, commissioning, or deploying advanced motion control systems for manufacturing applications.
  • Knowledge of precision engineering concepts such as error budgeting, ultra-precision metrology, geometric error compensation, dynamic error reduction, or machine calibration.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems in production or equipment-development environments.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employment visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with linear motors, high-resolution encoders, air or hydrostatic bearings, low-friction bearing systems, and high-speed servo control.
  • Experience with CNC or motion control platforms such as Delta Tau, Newport, Physik Instrumente, Polaris, or Aerotech.
  • Experience with EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, embedded software, machine control, C/C++, .NET/C#, Structured Text, TwinCAT, or LabVIEW.
