Platform/DevOps Engineer (Renovate)

What you will do

• Implement and deploy a self-hosted Renovate environment with containers, workers, and job orchestration.
• Automate repository discovery and onboarding across tens of thousands of GitLab repositories using the GitLab API.
• Develop version-controlled Renovate presets and support repository-level configuration.
• Set up monitoring, logging, alerting, and reporting for repository coverage, update throughput, and error rates.
• Optimise performance through parallelisation, caching, rate-limit management, and robust error handling.
• Integrate registries and secrets management, prepare runbooks, support development teams, and manage the phased rollout.

Requirements

• Professional experience as a DevOps, Platform, Automation Engineer, or in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of GitLab CI/CD and practical experience with the GitLab API.
• Hands-on experience with containers, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code, including OpenTofu or Helm.
• Scripting or programming skills in Bash, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Experience with monitoring and observability solutions, package and container registries, Renovate, and automated dependency management.
• Good English communication skills and availability for the Budapest-based remote role.

Nice to have

• Experience operating Renovate across thousands or tens of thousands of repositories.
• Experience with scalable GitLab platforms, GitLab Runner, distributed workers, or job scheduling.
• Knowledge of software supply-chain security, CVE-driven updates, and automated vulnerability remediation.
• Experience with enterprise environments, observability KPIs, or additional secrets and artifact management technologies.
