What you will do
- Support the responsible delivery of regulated in vivo studies under the guidance of the Research Director.
- Maintain high standards of care, welfare, husbandry, and handling for mice and rats.
- Perform authorized non-surgical regulated procedures and approved humane endpoints in line with licenses, training, and welfare protocols.
- Maintain accurate written and electronic records, including welfare observations and in vivo dataset analysis.
- Apply and promote the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—to minimize animal use and improve welfare.
- Support laboratory operations through biological assays, ordering of animals and reagents, training, meetings, cleaning, and facility maintenance.
Requirements
- BSc or higher in a related scientific discipline, or equivalent academic, industrial, or commercial experience.
- Home Office Personal License (PIL AB) required.
- Experience caring for, handling, and managing mice and rats in a regulated setting.
- Proficiency in welfare-conscious subcutaneous injections for mice and rats and intraperitoneal injections for mice.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prioritize work independently and handle confidential information.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent carrying and lifting, and willingness to complete required training.
Nice to have
- Practical experience in a research environment and knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures.
- Awareness of emerging obesity pharmacotherapies.
- Experience with refined blood-sampling techniques, including tail-vein sampling.
- Experience performing ELISAs or other biological assays.
- Ability to analyze and present data using GraphPad Prism.
