Immunoassay Senior Scientist

Location: Cambridge, UK; hybrid working is offered, with work required from the Babraham Research Campus offices and laboratories based on business needs and role requirements.

What you will do

• Design, develop, optimize, validate, troubleshoot, and interpret sensitive singleplex and multiplex immunoassays for drug discovery screening cascades.
• Generate pharmacodynamic, target engagement, pathway modulation, and immunogenicity data for small-molecule and oligonucleotide therapeutics.
• Support early pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic assessments, compound profiling, DMTA cycles, lead optimization, and candidate selection.
• Partner with Chemistry, DMPK, Target Discovery, New Projects, Biology, and in vivo pharmacology teams to align assay strategy with project milestones.
• Oversee immunoassay data generation at CROs and critically assess scientific quality, interpretation, and delivery.
• Mentor junior scientists, improve experimental capabilities, maintain SOPs and ELN records, and present data packages at project and biology meetings.

Requirements

• Degree with extensive immunoassay or early-stage target engagement and pharmacodynamic assay development experience in a drug discovery environment; typically at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience with ELISA, HTRF, AlphaLISA, MSD, Luminex, fit-for-purpose method validation, assay troubleshooting, and bioanalytical data interpretation.
• Experience contributing to DMTA cycles and collaborating with Chemistry, DMPK, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience managing or collaborating with CROs, including biomarker assay development and compound logistics.
• Working knowledge of assay automation, liquid handling, plate-based workflows, GraphPad Prism, ELNs, and scientific databases.
• Ability to work from the Babraham Research Campus in South Cambridge under the role’s hybrid working arrangement.

Nice to have

• Experience with ultra-sensitive platforms such as Simoa, flow cytometry, high-content imaging, oligonucleotide modalities, or broader biochemical, cellular, and biophysical assays.
• Formal line management experience and knowledge of emerging immunoassay technologies, automated liquid handling, and ultra-sensitive detection platforms.
