Staff Software Engineer (Federal)

Location: Washington, DC area; hybrid work. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret or Top Secret security clearance as required by U.S. Government contracts.

Salary: $161,000–$221,000 annual base salary for candidates in the listed eligible U.S. locations. Equity, bonus, and benefits may also apply.

What you will do

• Act as a security subject matter expert in solution engineering and architecture reviews, particularly for detection, response, and enterprise security tooling.
• Evaluate, design, and implement enterprise security systems and feature enhancements.
• Build and maintain Python-based automation, custom tooling, Terraform infrastructure, and security controls.
• Develop integrations with APIs, AWS, GCP, Azure, and security infrastructure to improve detection, response, and remediation.
• Build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and integrations for security event data and log sources.
• Establish monitoring and alerting for security posture, misconfigurations, and threats across endpoints, SaaS, and cloud workloads.

Requirements

• 8+ years of coding and scripting experience focused on automation and custom security tooling.
• Required experience with Python; Bash, PowerShell, or Go experience is beneficial.
• Experience developing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, integrating log sources, and processing security event data.
• Experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools, cloud-first security automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical teams, support teams, executives, and external vendors.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret or Top Secret security clearance; current or previous Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI clearance is expected.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of experience delivering engineering solutions in regulated environments such as FedRAMP High, IL4, IL5, or IL6.
• Experience with MFA, SAML, OAuth, OIDC, WebAuthn, advanced identity management, or Okta integrations.
• Experience with policy-as-code, continuous compliance, and automated evidence gathering.
