Intern - Kite Research - Protein Science

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid work at the designated site is required, and relocation may be required.

Salary: $19.00–$55.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Support exploratory projects involving lab-in-the-loop protein production and engineering workflows.
• Evaluate assays and technologies, improve experimental data workflows, and implement small-scale automation solutions.
• Perform recombinant protein expression, purification, and biophysical and biochemical characterization.
• Document experiments and maintain records using ELN and LIMS.
• Coordinate tasks across multiple projects and communicate plans and results in written and oral formats.
• Prepare and deliver a final PowerPoint presentation at the end of the internship.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old and independently authorized to work in the United States without current or future school or employer sponsorship.
• Must be enrolled full-time at a nationally accredited U.S. college or university and remain enrolled full-time in the following fall semester.
• Must be an undergraduate or graduate/doctoral student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.
• Must commit to a full-time internship lasting 10–12 consecutive weeks between May and August and work at the designated site.
• Preferred academic fields include biochemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related disciplines; a PhD is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving, organization, communication, teamwork, and prioritization skills are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with recombinant or cell-free protein expression and protein purification.
• Familiarity with SDS-PAGE, Western blot, UPLC/HPLC, DLS, or other analytical methods.
• Interest in protein engineering, integrated assay workflows, computational analysis, and laboratory process improvement.
• Basic programming experience with Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
