Senior Structures & Composites Engineer (Rocket Motor Cases)

What you will do

• Design and develop rocket motor cases, including composite overwrapped pressure vessels and filament-wound composite cases.
• Lead motor case architecture and detailed design covering load paths, interfaces, domes, bosses, and attachment features.
• Perform structural analysis under internal pressure, thermal loads, and dynamic environments.
• Develop composite layups, fiber orientations, material selections, and manufacturing approaches for strength, stiffness, mass efficiency, and reliability.
• Coordinate with propulsion, materials, manufacturing, and test teams while supporting prototyping, fabrication, hardware bring-up, and troubleshooting.
• Define qualification and environmental testing, conduct failure investigations, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in structural and composite design for aerospace or high-performance pressure-vessel applications.
• Strong knowledge of composite materials, filament winding, laminate theory, and failure criteria such as Tsai-Wu and Hashin.
• Experience designing pressure vessels, composite overwrapped pressure vessels, or rocket motor cases for high-pressure applications.
• Proficiency with structural analysis tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN, or equivalent.
• Experience with composite manufacturing, non-destructive inspection, proof/burst testing, structural validation, and hardware troubleshooting.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-temperature materials and composite processing.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, hardware-rich environment with a high test cadence.
