Staff Network Backbone & Edge Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

What you will do

• Design, deploy, operate, and maintain Nscale’s carrier-grade backbone and edge infrastructure.
• Configure Nokia SR routers, BGP peering, IP/MPLS, VRFs, IPv6, routing policies, traffic engineering, IP transit, and DDoS mitigation.
• Commission and validate 400G/800G wavelength services, optical links, fibre infrastructure, cross-connects, and carrier circuits.
• Monitor network performance, investigate routing anomalies and capacity constraints, and act as a Tier 3+ escalation point for complex incidents.
• Develop test plans, perform optical and end-to-end service validation, and document acceptance results and physical-layer records.
• Manage technical relationships with carriers, wavelength providers, and colocation partners, including circuit delivery and supplier escalations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on network engineering experience focused on backbone, Internet edge, WAN, or transport infrastructure.
• Proven experience with Nokia SR routing platforms and strong knowledge of BGP, IP/MPLS, IPv6, VRFs, routing policy, traffic engineering, service segmentation, and DDoS mitigation.
• Experience in carrier-grade, hyperscale, cloud, ISP, telecommunications, or large-scale data centre environments.
• Hands-on experience with 400G/800G coherent optical transport, wavelength services, optical acceptance testing, link budget analysis, OTDRs, optical power meters, and optical spectrum analysers.
• Experience working with carriers and colocation providers on circuit delivery, cross-connects, technical escalations, and service validation.
• Familiarity with Python, Ansible, Terraform, network monitoring and telemetry platforms, Linux, and Git-based workflows.

• Regional carrier ecosystem knowledge across EMEA.
• Experience with hyperscale, cloud, telecommunications, ISP, or AI infrastructure environments.
• Experience supporting high-capacity backbone networks and mission-critical connectivity.
• Exposure to automated network provisioning and Network-as-Code practices.
