Staff Software Developer (Back-end) (Java)

Location: Remote in Romania, with locations listed as Cluj or Bucharest

What you will do

• Define and evolve technical architecture and engineering standards for safe, scalable, secure, and reusable platform capabilities.
• Lead design reviews, RFCs, proof-of-concepts, and hands-on architectural collaboration.
• Own platform features and architectural improvements from design through delivery.
• Partner with QA, Product, Security, domain specialists, and DevOps on observability, reliability, quality, CI/CD, deployment, and production safeguards.
• Lead root cause analysis, address systemic risks, and implement preventative improvements.
• Mentor engineers and solve complex challenges involving third-party extensibility, real-time multi-user synchronization, and responsible AI-assisted development.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 8 years with core Java.
• Deep expertise in server-side Java and experience designing shared platforms or infrastructure used by multiple teams.
• Experience delivering cloud-native systems on AWS, including scalability, reliability, security, and cost management.
• Experience with monolithic applications, microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
• Strong ownership of architectural decisions, communication, influence, and software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience working in an agile team with developers, testers, and a product owner.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure or Google Cloud in addition to AWS.
• Open-source contributions or a strong GitHub portfolio.
