Senior Java Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Bucharest, Romania; hybrid work with one day per week in the office

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend services supporting institutional trading applications and workflows.
• Take ownership of technical topics from requirements clarification and solution design through production follow-up.
• Design and evolve REST APIs, internal and external system integrations, and FIX-based interfaces where applicable.
• Improve system scalability, reliability, maintainability, performance, observability, and failure recovery.
• Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and support operational stability.
• Review code, mentor less experienced engineers, and collaborate with engineering, product, support, and other technical teams.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of professional experience with Java and strong backend software development experience.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, clean code, software design, design patterns, concurrency, multithreading, transactions, error handling, and application resilience.
• Experience designing REST APIs and service-to-service integrations, working with SQL and relational databases.
• Experience troubleshooting complex production issues across applications, databases, and integrations.
• Experience with unit and integration testing, version control, code review, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployments.
• Ability to modify complex or legacy systems, assess technical trade-offs, communicate clearly, and work autonomously across teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in financial services, brokerage, trading platforms, or capital markets.
• Knowledge of the FIX protocol and electronic trading workflows.
• Experience with asynchronous messaging, event-driven architecture, Kafka, Spring or Spring Boot.
• Experience with containers, orchestration, monitoring, observability, and high-availability or low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with agentic models.
