Staff Software Engineer (Flink)

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for complex, cross-functional streaming initiatives.
• Design, implement, test, and release scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable features for a cloud-native streaming platform.
• Lead technical design discussions across distributed systems, APIs, services, and platform capabilities.
• Drive projects from technical concept through implementation, testing, release, and production adoption.
• Collaborate with Product Management, UX, Support, Documentation, SRE, engineering teams, field engineering, and customers.
• Mentor engineers, improve engineering practices, and contribute to Apache Flink and other open-source communities.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, and/or 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Extensive experience building scalable distributed systems and cloud-native software.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
• Strong Java skills and significant experience with Apache Flink or comparable distributed stream-processing technologies.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and modern cloud-native architectures.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with Scala, Python, or JavaScript.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, streaming analytics, event-driven architectures, or real-time data processing.
• Experience contributing to Apache or other open-source projects.
