Principal Data Platform Engineer (Swedish Ad Platform)

Location: Hybrid/remote across Europe, Albania, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Asia, or Uzbekistan

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and technical design of an enterprise-scale data platform built from the ground up.
• Design Iceberg-based event storage, canonical data models, semantic layers, and data flows for analytical and operational products.
• Build reliable batch and near-real-time pipelines for high-volume advertising workloads using distributed processing technologies.
• Establish data contracts, schema evolution, data quality, lineage, observability, reconciliation, testing, and deployment standards.
• Define tenant isolation, access control, regional data boundaries, scalability, and infrastructure cost optimization strategies.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with Platform Engineering, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing and operating production-grade data platforms.
• Expertise in distributed data systems, high-volume event-driven architectures, modern lakehouse architecture, and Apache Iceberg.
• Advanced SQL and production experience with Python, Java, Scala, or similar languages.
• Experience with Spark, Flink, or Trino; data modeling; partitioning; performance optimization; and batch and near-real-time pipelines.
• Hands-on AWS experience, plus knowledge of CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, data contracts, schema evolution, and data quality frameworks.
• Upper-Intermediate English or higher, with strong communication and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• AdTech or other high-volume event-processing experience.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS data architectures and semantic layer technologies.
• Experience supporting analytics and ML/AI workloads.
• Understanding of privacy regulations and data residency requirements.
