Space Software Engineering Placement (12 months)

Location: Stevenage, United Kingdom. The placement lasts 12 months and starts on 19 July 2027. Hybrid working options may be available depending on the role.

hirify.global Defence and Space develops aerospace and satellite systems, including software for Earth Observation, Space Exploration, Science missions, and telecommunications payloads.

What you will do

• Learn and understand the codebase through documentation and guidance from experienced engineers.
• Design, develop, document, and test software throughout the development lifecycle.
• Work with applications, servers, databases, and software design patterns.
• Contribute to embedded software solutions linked closely to hardware, including low-level communication layers, register control, and FPGA-related work.
• Research and use emerging technologies, pair-program, and collaborate in a multi-developer agile team.

Requirements

• Must remain an undergraduate for the full duration of the 12-month placement.
• Currently studying towards a degree in Software Engineering.
• Some experience in software engineering and coding.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Interest in space and satellite technology.
• Successful candidates must complete BPSS screening and may require UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control approval, depending on the role.
