3 x Health & Safety Adviser – Science and Engineering – 12-month fixed term

Salary: NZ$87,000–NZ$118,000 per annum

What you will do

• Provide practical health and safety advice across complex teaching, research, laboratory, and engineering environments.
• Identify and manage hazards and risks, review risk assessments, and support higher-risk activities.
• Lead and support incident response, investigations, corrective actions, and organisational learning.
• Conduct safety walks, inspections, audits, and assurance activities.
• Coordinate health and safety documentation, training, records, reporting, and compliance requirements.
• Build relationships with academics, researchers, technicians, managers, professional staff, and students.

Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualification and approximately 3–4 years of health and safety experience.
• Experience in complex operational, laboratory, research, engineering, manufacturing, or other technical environments.
• Strong knowledge of risk management, hazard identification, incident management, and health and safety compliance.
• Experience with incident investigations, corrective actions, risk assessments, procedures, audits, inspections, and safety documentation.
• Strong communication, influencing, organisational, administrative, and independent decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with complex health and safety management systems.

Nice to have

• Chemistry qualification or background for Science positions.
• Experience with Sidetrack or Ideagen health and safety systems.
• Engineering or mechanical engineering degree for the Engineering position.
