Scientist II - Bioinformatics (Maternity Cover)

Location: Cambridge, UK. The role requires working from offices and laboratories at Babraham Research Campus; hybrid working is available according to business needs and role requirements.

What you will do

• Provide statistical rigour for experimental design and support decision-making in collaboration with laboratory scientists.
• Perform statistical analyses and interpret experimental results for drug discovery programmes.
• Explain methodologies, assumptions, and findings to non-expert audiences.
• Develop techniques for visualising and communicating complex statistical analyses.
• Collaborate with laboratory scientists to automate and standardise workflows for routine biological assays.
• Liaise with internal and external collaborators.

Requirements

• Postgraduate degree in statistics or mathematics.
• Strong understanding of statistics and experimental design across different data types.
• Experience with ANOVA, linear modelling, random effects, Bayesian models, and power analysis.
• Confident programming in Python or R for data science and statistics, including experience working in a team.
• Experience presenting findings to non-experts and using visualisation tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, or ggplot.
• Experience with Git version control, preferably including branching and merging.
