Data Technical Lead

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid working with at least 2 days per week in the office or on client site, potentially up to 5 days per week on a client site.

What you will do

• Lead data engineering and data platform teams, setting technical direction while enabling engineers to own delivery.
• Design and deliver scalable, secure, reliable, and cost-effective enterprise data platforms.
• Make architectural decisions across ingestion, storage, processing, modelling, orchestration, and serving.
• Lead platform modernisation and migration, including coexistence, cutover, and decommissioning.
• Improve how teams build, test, deploy, and operate software and data products using agile engineering practices.
• Provide technical input for bids, proposals, client discussions, and implementation plans while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• Experience technically leading data engineering or data platform teams.
• Experience designing and delivering modern enterprise data platforms.
• Strong software engineering practices for data platforms, including testing, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with data quality, observability, governance, metadata, security, and privacy.
• Ability to communicate with engineers, clients, and senior stakeholders and turn business problems into practical technical solutions.
• Applicants must be British citizens or have been continuously resident in the UK for the past 5 years where security clearance is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow, dbt, Terraform, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience applying GenAI-assisted development, agentic workflows, and related security and governance controls.

Hiring process

• Initial video call with a technology recruiter.
• Competency interview followed by a 90-minute face-to-face technical interview.
• Final 30-minute face-to-face meeting with a PA leader focused on client-centricity.
