Staff Software Engineer - Threat Protection Systems

Location: San Jose, California; hybrid work arrangement

Targeted compensation: up to $160,000 OTE annually.

What you will do

• Design and implement DDoS detection and mitigation approaches based on malware behavior, traffic patterns, network protocols, and policy requirements.
• Develop an extensible mitigation data plane with programmable packet-processing logic for emerging botnet attacks.
• Build and maintain data-plane, control-plane, configuration, logging, and policy-enforcement components using multi-core and multi-threaded programming.
• Investigate defects, analyze traffic, identify root causes, and deliver fixes using GDB, Wireshark, tcpdump, and related tools.
• Collaborate with product management, architecture, QA, support, and platform engineering teams to define, review, and validate features.
• Create design documentation, unit tests, implementation notes, and end-to-end validation plans.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of software engineering experience in networking, security, distributed systems, Linux systems, or related product development.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, and Bash.
• Understanding of OSI layers, TCP/IP networking, packet processing, DNS, HTTP, and TLS.
• Experience with Linux networking systems, operating-system concepts, packet filtering, forwarding, traffic-processing paths, or multi-threaded systems.
• Ability to develop features from requirements through coding, testing, debugging, and validation, with strong cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Curiosity about AI/ML applications, container platforms, and distributed systems in security.
• Experience with profiling tools such as perf or similar utilities.
