Lab Operations Manager (Microbiology)

What you will do

• Lead, schedule, and supervise microbiology laboratory personnel to meet coverage and performance objectives.
• Manage daily laboratory operations, including manual and instrumental analyses, reporting, records, and performance tracking.
• Review test data for technical accuracy, SOP compliance, and adherence to approved methods.
• Investigate non-conformances, determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and verify resolution.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, including cleaning, calibration, troubleshooting, logbooks, minor repairs, and coordination of major repairs.
• Conduct interviews, make hiring decisions, onboard and train staff, and provide performance reviews and ongoing coaching.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or closely related field.
• 3–5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a laboratory environment.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory procedures, data analysis, computer operations, and technical or business writing.
• Experience with PCR, ELISA, and culture confirmation of foodborne pathogens, including Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli O157:H7.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, teamwork, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
