TL;DR
Program Scientist (Glaciology): Advancing glacier and ice-sheet research programs through data collection, modeling, field deployments, grantmaking, and scientific partnerships with an accent on translating rigorous science into operational programs and field plans. Focus on coordinating scientific reviews, building glaciological networks, planning Antarctic field deployments, and communicating research findings to technical and public audiences.

Location: Fully remote; travel to scientific conferences, workshops, field sites, and fieldwork locations, including Antarctica and other glaciated regions, is required as needed.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 annually for the full-time position, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

  • Build collaborative relationships across the international glaciological community and represent Arete at workshops and conferences.
  • Develop field engagement strategies, convene targeted workshops, organize scientific networks, and manage partnerships across science, engineering, government, and related domains.
  • Align scientific and technical roadmaps and manage the external grant portfolio with the operations team.
  • Coordinate proposal outreach and review, including reviewer recruitment, panel organization, and funding recommendations.
  • Maintain communication with grantees and support alignment between funded projects and Arete’s mission.
  • Advise leadership on scientific developments and strategy, prepare reports and proposals, and plan field deployments in Antarctica and other glaciated regions.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering field, such as glaciology, geophysics, physics, mathematics, or engineering.
  • Demonstrated expertise in glacier dynamics, including a record of innovative research.
  • Track record of publishing in scholarly literature and presenting at scientific conferences.
  • Interest in shifting day-to-day work toward scientific program and project management.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and deadlines, collaborate across technical and external communities, and make evidence-based strategic recommendations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, technical reports, proposals, maps, plots, and accessible scientific communications.
