Software Engineering Intern - Waterloo University (AI, Privacy & Security)

Location: Remote from Canada; fall semester internship for current Waterloo University students.

Salary: $6000.00 per month for 3 months.

What you will do

• Build and maintain ETL pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Develop Python and TypeScript backend services and API integration tools.
• Integrate and optimize LLM inference pipelines, including prompt engineering, model serving, and output evaluation.
• Deploy and troubleshoot containerized workloads on Kubernetes, including manifests and autoscaling.
• Prototype and ship privacy-enhancing browser features in C++ or Rust.
• Implement permissions and anti-fingerprinting protections while working with Chromium, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git, and GitHub.

Requirements

• Current enrollment at Waterloo University is required.
• Ability to work remotely during the fall semester with a schedule flexible enough to accommodate studies.
• Experience or working knowledge of Python, TypeScript, C++, or Rust, depending on the internship track.
• Understanding of data processing, APIs, Kubernetes, LLM systems, web technologies, or browser and web security concepts.
• Ability to collaborate asynchronously with geographically distributed teams.
