Senior Engineer, Legal - Canada Remote (AI)

Location: Remote from Canada; 10–25% travel for meetings and conferences

Annual salary: $150,000–$180,000 CAD, plus bonus or incentive pay

What you will do

• Partner with attorneys and compliance professionals to identify automation opportunities and translate legal workflows into trusted technical solutions.
• Architect and build AI applications for contract review, legal research, regulatory analysis, and compliance using LLMs, RAG, and agentic AI frameworks.
• Develop document ingestion, parsing, chunking, embedding, indexing, and processing pipelines for contracts, playbooks, and regulatory filings.
• Ship production applications with Python and/or TypeScript, LLM APIs, orchestration frameworks, CI/CD, monitoring, and automated evaluation pipelines.
• Implement security and governance controls, including access management, audit logging, PII redaction, and data residency compliance.
• Lead and mentor legal users in no-code AI solutions, deliver demos and training, and collaborate with IT and Data & AI teams on enterprise-scale delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data science, or machine learning engineering, with production applications shipped.
• Production experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG, agent and tool use, and evaluation frameworks.
• Strong Python skills and experience with AI/ML frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, or equivalent tools.
• Experience with AI development tools, vector databases, Azure, AWS or GCP, API design, Docker, Kubernetes, and scalable document-processing pipelines.
• Interest or experience in legal, compliance, or regulatory domains, such as legal technology, contract analytics, regulatory technology, legal operations, paralegal work, law school coursework, or a JD.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying AI solutions in regulated industries such as life sciences, healthcare, financial services, or legal.
• Experience with multi-step agentic workflows, human-in-the-loop oversight, tool calling, MCP servers, and structured outputs.
• Knowledge of enterprise AI governance, responsible AI, model evaluation, bias testing, explainability, and the EU AI Act.
