Senior Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Full-time onsite in Reston, Virginia; U.S. citizenship and an active U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance with CI polygraph are required.

Salary: $140,000–$187,000–$205,700 annually for the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

What you will do

• Automate and optimize data extraction, cleaning, processing, and analysis through scripting and ETL pipelines.
• Process structured and unstructured large-scale datasets with big data frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop, and cloud-native tools.
• Lead full-cycle data science and engineering workflows, from hypothesis generation through actionable insights and reporting.
• Design, fine-tune, and integrate LLM-driven tools for summarization, tagging, retrieval, knowledge capture, and internal decision support.
• Explore graph technologies, machine learning, generative AI, and LLMs to create mission-focused analytical capabilities.
• Partner with engineering teams to productionize models, communicate findings, and mentor junior data scientists.

Requirements

• Current TS/SCI clearance and willingness and ability to obtain a CI polygraph.
• U.S. citizenship is required; certain work may also be subject to U.S. export control and ITAR requirements.
• At least 10 years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related technical field.
• Master’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, statistics, GIS, or a related discipline, or two additional years of experience instead.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, data analysis, machine learning, automation, and full-cycle data projects.
• Experience with LLM/NLP concepts, pre-trained models, graph databases or graph-based applications, and clear communication of technical findings.

Nice to have

• Advanced statistics, NLP, unsupervised learning, LLM fine-tuning, RAG, or AI agent experience.
• Cloud platforms, scalable data processing, MLOps, big data technologies, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of graph data modeling, graph algorithms, and query languages such as Cypher, Gremlin, or SPARQL.
• Experience with data visualization tools including Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
